Time

"It's funny, actually. I've never really believed in time. It seemed just an invention of mankind, to give ourselves the illusion we have control over daily events. A mechanical process since the clock was invented. I never wanted to believe in Time. Another false God. Yet, I've been needing it. How do you get something you don't believe in?"

~Maximiliaan Desnacht ~

Time has never been my thing to believe in. Everything just goes by. People cross your path and leave to walk with others. You walk with other people yourself. Words are said and become the past right away. Only the moment is there.
I don't believe in time. Yet I need it now and then. Once, someone went into the desert to think for fourty days. Coincidentally, there's almost 40 days between my last two stories. The reason for that is that I needed some 'time' to think things over. I had tons of ideas, still do, but could not find the motivation to actually start writing. Luckily, I sometimes get ideas for stories, that I just have to write down right away. It's an odd unexplainable feeling. Some stories just have to written the moment you get the idea. Stories like Celia, Drive, Shortest Straw.
This told me I'll probably never be a published writer. Not because of a lack of talent (I do believe in my talent), but because of my lack of motivation sometimes. I don't see myself working against the clock for some publisher.
"I can't finish the book before December, Sir. I don't believe in Time."
I doubt they'll accept that. :) But it's allright. My last stories have done exactly what I wanted them to do. They made people cry and think. They made people smile and think. They made people think. The world can only change if people think. About themselves mostly. Because I can't change the world without your help. If you won't change, so won't the world. That's still my motivation to write. But it's tough to keep up if you watch the news now and then. Nothing seems to change, while I know very well that I won't see any changes I might hopefully cause. That's demotivating sometimes.
I should stop watching the news. Then again, I can't try change things if I don't keep an eye on what's wrong.
Being a writer is a double edged blade.
But given time, I'll learn :aww:

So I would like to thank everyone who's read my stories and let them touch you. It means a lot to me.

Say, don't write your ability to become a published writer off, just yet. Yes, you will probably never become a published writer who can live solely on the royalties of his book. (At least, if you follow your own philosophy about time.)

But I think that you might be able to become a published author... You've got enough talent and practice. Ok, you're not that prolific, so you need to get another job to give you a steady income. Yet there are tons of authors out there who do that... So believe in yourself and don't give up that dream just yet!

I myself think I'll never be able to write, say, a book per year to keep a publisher happy. But I think the best solution is to work ahead, i mean, you don't have to gallop to the publisher right after you finished your first book. Write like, six of 'em (I always write like twenty things at the same time and switch between 'em as inspiration strikes) and then try to get them published. That way you're safe for the next six years, during which you may get new stuff finished. :)

I think the only good publisher would be the one that answers you "It's okay, I don't believe in December anyway, you pick a day when you want it to be December! ^^ " Or something freaky like that :) Someone who isn't addicted to time...
I'm glad to hear there still are people who want to change the world :) I try to do that in doing weird and shout out "save the animals/rainforest/poor children/...." whenever I feel to. And I don't watch the news... it's deprimating... I try to see it a bit smaller, the world is too much to stand up in I guess. For now at least...
But whatever you do, good luck with it! (as a writer you're sure doing wel, I think you might publish a book oneday anyway! ^^ )

That'd be a brilliant reply. *hops off to find a publisher like that*
And doing weird isn't bad to change the world ;) As logn as you want to change it. People who don't want to see it changed and just go along with it, are naieve :p

Hahaha :D

Hmhm, that's right.

my friend, you have all the tools and talent to be a writer, i am sure of that. A collection of your short stories is something i would buy and urge my friends to buy ad nauseum. You can make your own deadlines if you really wish to, or write your stories for local magazines or papers, don't give up on that dream Yves. You will shatter my own phantom hopes if you do.
